On Wednesday March 12th, Huntertown FD and St. Joe Twp. FD participated in joint mayday training instructed by Chris Walker. The training took place in the former Leo Distributers building located at Dupont and I-69. The building was scheduled for demolition, but fortunately was able to be utilized for FD training before that happened. The evening started out with a brief powerpoint lecture identifying situations appropriate for calling the mayday, which initiates the rapid intervention teams. Several skill stations were set up and part of the building was smoked up as well. Some of those skill stations were: large scale oriented room search, ff entanglement in wires, floor collapse, ff drags, and following hoselines out as an exit strategy. All the situations required the firefighter to "Call the mayday". If you were unable to attend the training, a good accronym to use is L.U.N.A.R which stands for give your LOCATION, then your UNIT

What is a firefighter Fitness Assessment?
The Fitness Assessment is a way to gauge what cardio and strength level you are at.
What does the assessment involve?
The assessment starts with a treadmill test that lasts about 4-6 minutes. You then walk through several stations that assess grip strength, upper & lower body strength, core body strength/ endurance, and flexibility.
Who does the assessment?
Peer Fitness Trainers trained to conduct the assessment.
How long does the assessment last?
The entire assessment lasts about 20-30 minutes.
What happens to my results?
The results are COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL. If you choose to compare or share your assessments results, that is up to you. You are given one copy of your results and another copy is put in a locked file cabinet in the PFT/EMS office. Only PFT’s have a key to this file cabinet. These results are for your benefit only. You can compare the results to future assessments to see how you have improved your level of fit

At approximately 3:43pm on Sunday 1/7/06 Huntertown FD was called to the Byron Health Center for a general fire alarm. Fire 92 arrived at 3:48 to the main hospital and was directed to other residential building. It was immediately obvious that there was a fire inside the structure as black smoke pushed from beind a residents locked bedroom door. At that time Washington Twp FD was also requested to assist. All residents were accounted for as they were evacuated from the structure. Engine 91 made a quick knock down as Rescue 98 performed a primary search to ensure that no residents remained on the fire floor. Surprisingly there was very minimal smoke damage despite the heavy smoke originally found in the dormitory style bedroom.

Huntertown, IN -The Huntertown-Perry Township Fire Department is proud to announce it has received a grant of $78,544 from the 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Fire Department will match these funds with an additional $8,727 for a total of $87,271.

ZOLL Medical Corporation, a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, today announced that it is now shipping a new version of the ZOLL AED Plus™ with Real CPR Help™ that fully complies with the 2005 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines. ZOLL is unveiling this device in Booth #23 at the upcoming 2006 Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update Conference to be held from June 22 through June 24 in Orlando, Fla.
The AED Plus now follows the newly recommended compression-to-ventilation ratio of 30 compressions to two breaths. It also allows one defibrillating shock, if needed, followed by a
two-minute CPR interval. These enhancements are meant to help rescuers deliver high-quality, effective CPR by delivering more chest compressions while limiting interruptions.
The AED Plus also allows rescuers to see and hear how well they perform the rate and depth of CPR chest compressions. Because only about half of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) victims are typically

Several Huntertown Fire Department firefighters assisted local VFW members with placing flags on veterans’ graves at nearby cemeteries. The flags were placed on the graves in observance of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Between the VFW and the HFD members, approximately 150 flags were put in place. Fire Chief Jim Reid and Lt. Mike Aker started the new tradition last year by offering their services to Keith McComb. This year Chief Reid started a new tradition by driving his nearly restored WWII Jeep to the cemetery. The Huntertown Fire Department would like to thank our local VFW members for what they have done in the past for this country and for their time and effort the put in every year on Memorial Day. The Fort Wayne Fire Department lends instructors to the center for the firefighting course. Fort Wayne FD asked Huntertown to bring our rescue unit down and serve as guest instructors. Included in the Anthis class are Huntertown probationary firefighters Chris Elett, Alex Leavitt and Tom Workman.
