C Shift catches yet another run on Friday June 27th. This was a R.I.T. response assist for St. Joe Twp FD on Horeshoe Bend in Cottonwood Lakes. On St. Joe's arrival heavy smoke was visible. On Engine 91 arrival, they were re-assigned to perform a primary search, while Huntertowns additional manpower still established a rapid intervention team. No injuries were reported. Fire damage was confined to the garage, but smoke damage was evident inside.

On Friday June 27th just before 8am Huntertown FD responded to a vehicle accident on St Rd 3 with 2 trapped. On arrival a single vehicle was down a steep enbankment, wedged between a culvert and a tree. The paitients were extricated within about 35 minutes.

On Monday June 2nd Huntertown FD responded to several calls. A structure fire was dispatched just after 6pm on Lima Rd. Engine 91 arrived 1 minute from the dispatched time. Jason Hale rode out captain and reported heavy fire and smoke pushing from side 2 on the 2nd floor. Chief Engineer Robert Boren took command in the front of the structure. The fire was under control 30 minutes later. Additional units responded from Washington Twp FD and Northeast FD. Churubusco FD remained in service from Huntertown FD to cover any additional calls. No injuries were reported.
Earlier in the day, a vehicle fire was toned out next to a house on Pulver Rd. The van was approximately 30 ft. from the house and still melted a significant amount of siding on the new house under construction, despite the quick 7 minute reponse. On Monday April 14th, at approximately 09:00 Huntertown Fd and Northeast Fd responded to a car fire inside an attached garage. On arrival heavy smoke and flames were visible on a 2 story residential structure. As crews advanced lines inside the house to push the fire out, a secondary crew attempted to make a quick knock down without pushing the fire into the house or on the interior attack. Additional assistance was requested from St. Joe Twp Fd, Washington Twp. Fd, New Haven Fd and Woodburn Fd. One dog was sucessfully rescued from the house. No other injuries were reported. On Sunday April 13th, Huntertown Fd responded to a reported house fire at the 2300 block of Chapman Rd. On arrival light smoke was showing on a single story wood-frame structure. It was discovered that there was fire in the attic resulting from electrical wiring. Minor overhaul was initiated and units returned to service. Northeast Fd assisted.

On Saturday April 12, Huntertown FD responded to a single vehicle accident on Dibold Rd just east of the Parkview North Hospital entrance. On arrival 1 pt was pinned and 3 others were injured, which included 2 very small children in car seats. Fire 75 was first on scene from St Joe Twp FD and assumed incident command. Extrication was a challenge, due to the impact and the way the patient was positioned inside. Other agencies involved included ACPD and AMR.

On Tuesday February 12, Huntertown FD was dispatched to a possible house fire on McComb Rd. On arrival Engine 91 reported a working fire with heavy smoke showing. Capt. Mike Feely assumed command as units advanced lines to the basement, which appeared to be the point of origin. The structure sustained significant damage throughout. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious. Our Thanks to the mutual aid Departments that assisted Huntertown FD : Washington Twp FD, Churubusco FD, Laotto FD, Allen County F.A.S.T. and Rehab 70.

Huntertown Fire Department was called to an electrical fire on Coldwater Rd. Engine 91 reportes smoke coming from the roof. Huntertown crews quickly made an interior attack, while Washington TWP. crews went to the roof. Crews made a quick stop, containing damage to a upstairs bathroom.

On Saturday January 19th at approximately 11:09 Huntertown FD and WashingtonTwp FD were dispatched to a working house fire in the Homestead Acres neighborhood. Capt. Tucker was first on scene and assumed command with heavy fire showing from an attached garage. Engine 91 arrived at 11:15 and advanced an 1-3/4 attack line into the house to push the fire out of the garage. A second line was stretched to make a quick knock down as interior crews made there way through the heavy smoke to find the door leading to the garage. Command requested additional units from Northeast FD, Churubusco FD and St. Joe Twp FD. The fire was marked under control approximately 30 minutes later. At approximately 05:45am on Saturday January 19th, Units responded to an MVA at Bethel and Hathaway Rd with a party pinned. On arrival at 05:51 units found a single vehicle that went through the intersection and slammed into a tree, pinning the single occupant. He was heavily pinned. The patient was extricated at 06:06 and all units returned to service at 06:20. Samaritan Helicopter transported the patient. TRAA, and ACPD also made the scene.

On Sunday December 23rd Huntertown FD responded to a possible house fire on the 13000 block of Coldwater Rd. On arrival Capt. Mike Feely discovered a decorative electric fire place burning at the electrical outlet behind the unit on the 2nd floor. The owners fortunately already discharged a fire extinguisher, containing the fire. Damage was isolated to the unit and behind some paneling. Luckily the owners found the hazard before they left the house. They were preparing for a Christmas party at the house that night.

On Saturday December 15th, just before 1am Huntertown FD was dispatched to a semi trailer fire hauling 900lbs of paint. On arrival was a semi hauling 2 trailers. The fire started in the brake system, but was out on our arrival. A report was made and units returned to service.

On Sunday November 4th at 7:45pm Huntertown FD was dispatched on an appliance fire off Gump Rd. As units arrived on scene 6 minutes later, we found a fully involved house with flames visible in the garage and major black smoke coming from the 2nd floor. Fortunately all residents were able to evacuate the structure, however one family member was treated for an asthma attack. Additional units were dispatched from Northeast FD and Washington Twp FD. The house sustained heavy damage to several rooms on the first floor. Our Thanks to Northeast FD and Washington Twp FD for their assistance. No injuries were reported and units cleared just after 10pm.

Huntertown FD was dispatched to assist Northeast FD on a house fire on Hosler Rd at approx 1:30am Monday October 8th. On arrival heavy smoke was visible. Huntertown units remained on scene until 3:30am. No injuries were reported.

At about 1415hrs HFD was dispatched on a dryer fire in a residential home. Engine 91 along with Rescue 98 and Tank 93 responded. On Eng. 91 arrival, light smoke was coming from the open garage door. A quick look inside the home found heavy smoke and moderate heat. Fire 93 took command, coded the fire 703 (small working fire) and then called for a Truck company response from Washington Twp. Fire Dept. Eng. 91 crew stretched 1 3/4 line to attack the fire, while Rescue 98 crew took care of water supply, positive pressure ventilation, and addressing the utilities. The fire was quickly knocked and brought under control in less than 10 minutes.

We started on Thursday Sept 20th and had several medic runs, a few accidents and a couple fire responses. This trailer fire was a B-70 first due, with an assist from Northeast FD and Huntertown FD. Two dogs perished in the fire. There were no other injuries reported.

On Wednesday July 25th at 4:45pm Huntertown FD assisted Allen County Police on a personal injury accident that started off as a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle took the north curve in Huntertown too fast causing it to flip several times and come to rest on a house. The vehicle had two occupants, which were brought into custody by the Allen County Police. They both were in fair condition and transported to Parkview Main. A third patient, which left the vehicle on the south end of Huntertown before the pursuit started, refused treatment by Washington Twp FD. Investigation still is on-going by ACPD.

On Monday July 16th a vehicle fire was reported next to a house in the Carroll Creek Addition. Heavy smoke was visible from Huntertown which is about 5 miles away. A task force was requested from Washington Twp FD. As units arrived on scene the vehicle was fully engulfed and the house was also on fire. A quick knock down was made, while crews checked the structure for extention in the attic above the garage. Luckily there was no extention, and the fire was declared under control. There were no injuries reported.

Saturday June 30th wrapped up a busy month for Huntertown FD. We sent Engine 91, Tank 93 and Tank 94 to Churubusco to a Woodworking Shop fire fully involved. Units declared a defensive attack because the structure was scheduled for demolition. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday June 26th turned out to be a busy day for Huntertown Fire. Just before 7am Huntertown EMS was dispatched on a medical call. Then at about 7:30am Huntertown FD was dispatched on a vehicle accident At Bethel and Hathaway Roads. On arrival it appeared that the driver ran a stop sign and hit a tree. One patient was discovered pinned in the vehicle. Washington Twp. EMS assisted us with extrication and Samaritan helicopter transported the patient in critical condition Parkview Hospital.

On Tuesday June 19th at 6am Huntertown FD was dispatched to a barn fire on Hathaway Rd. Allen County Dispatch advised that the caller reported the fire to be suspicious. Dispatch also advised that the owner had the fire out. Chief Reid had Engine 91 proceed, and also called for an investigator. Other info regarding the run is pending and so is the investigation. On Sunday, June 10th at 18:55 hours, HVFD units were dispatched to a reported house fire in the Windsor Woods addition. Fire Chief Jim Reid was first on scene and reported a working garage fire with smoke showing. Engine 91 entered thru the side garage door and attacked the fire. Rescue 98's crew conducted primary and secondary searches, rescuing a dog. The fire was contained to the garage with moderate smoke damage throughout the house. Engine 91's crew brought the fire under control in eleven minutes.
Assisting HVFD on this assignment was Truck 67 from Washington Township and Engine 201 from Churubusco. Engine 171 from Northeast Fire was dispatched for a RIT assignment but was disregarded after the fire was brought under control. Allen County Fire Arson Specialized team conducted the investigation. All units cleared the scene at 20:03 hours.

On Friday June 1st at 12:00 St. Joe Twp Fd was dispatched on a couch fire that turned out to be a working structure fire. Fire 74 (Chris Wolf) initiated a taskforce response from Washington Twp FD and a rescue response from Huntertown FD. Once St. Joe arrived on scene they reported flames and smoke visible. Engine 71 made the initial attack, Engine 62 secured utilities and performed a primary search, Rescue 98 assisted with a back up line. The fire was declared under control 18 minutes later. The homeowner was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported

At approximately 4pm Friday May 11th, Huntertown and Churubusco Fire departments were dispatched on a structure fire. On arrival flames were visible. Chief Kris Bair from Churubusco assumed command. Full crews on Engine 91 and Rescue 98 battled the blaze not only with Churubusco FD but also with Laotto FD. Huntertown units were inservice around 6pm. Photos By David A. At approximately 10pm Huntertown FD and Northeast FD were dispatched to 4316 Hursh Rd on a detatched garage fire. Capt. Mike Feely (I.C.) was first on scene and found heavy fire involvement in the rear of the garage. Engine 171 was the first equipment to arrive and was instructed to advance a 2-1/2 on side 4 as Engine 91 advanced the same on side 2, both pushing the fire back to the 3 side where the fire originated. Just after midnight on Sunday April 22nd Huntertown FD was dispatched to a vehicle accident at Carroll Rd and Bethel Rd. After arriving in the area and finding nothing, it was determined that the actual incident was about 1 mile south on Bethel at Till Rd in Washington Twp. As units arrived on scene one vehicle was on its top and glass was everywhere. Five people were transported with minor injuries. Units cleared the scene around 1am. On Sunday Sept 17th. Huntertown FD was dispatched to a heavily envolved structure fire in the Sorrento addition at 10:12pm. On arrival crews found fire coming from the roof and garage area. The large house was vacant and had a For Sale sign in the front yard. The fire was brought under control within 45mins from the time of dispatch. Fortunately no injuries were reported. Investigators and Huntertown FD remained on the scene until 5:30am Monday morning. Fire crews from St. Joe Twp FD, Washington Twp FD, and Cedar Cayons helped in fire operations.

At approx. 4am on July 18th, HVFD was dispatched to a possible house fire with a strong smell of smoke coming from a residence on Monte Court. Fire Chief Jim Reid marked on scene with a two story house with fire showing from the side 2 eaves and confirmed a working fire. Chief Reid ordered a blitz attack with the deck gun off Engine 91. The deck gun knocked down the fire on the exterior and Chief Engineer Robert Boren lead his crew into the structure to knock the remaining fire down and begin overhaul. The fire was placed under control within 15 minutes. The house suffered severe fire damage to the attic area. HVFD was assisted by Washington Twp. Truck 67 and Rescue 68 as well as Engine 16 from the City of Fort Wayne. No injuries were reported. The cause was determined to be from a lightning strike. All units cleared the scene a 5:55am. A great turnout from all Huntertown firefighters was present at the Chapman Rd training house. Chief Eng. Robert Boren took command and supervised a safe live burn training. Three out of four walls collapsed inside the structure, containing the debris to the basement. The training exercise was complete by 10:30am.

At 2:55am on Sunday April 29th, Huntertown FD was dispatched to a fully envolved building at Carroll H.S. On arrival the building was a maintenance storage building 20 feet from the main school. It was completely consumed by fire and within minutes collapsed to the ground. There was a small utility shed that was also damaged in the fire. Investigators from the Allen County FAST team were on the scene perfoming a complete investigation. Assistance was also given from Washington Twp FD and Churubusco FD.

On Monday February 13th Huntertown FD responded to a 3rd party call of a possible house fire on McComb Rd. When they arrived they found a two story woodfame structure with smoke pushing from the second floor. Crews advanced an 1-3/4 to the 2nd floor and found heavy smoke in the hallway. At the end of the hall they found a bedroom fully envolved. Most of the fire damage was contained to that room. The second floor did sustained minimium smoke damage. On the morning of Tuesday, December 20th, 2005, this head on MVA occurred on Old State Rd 3 and Gump Roads just south of the station. E95 was on the scene within a minute of the collision and found three patients. The driver of the truck and car were unhurt but the passenger of the car had sustained serious head injuries. He was not wearing his seat belt. He was transported to Parkview Hospital by Parkview Samaritan in serious condition. Washington Twp assisted with Engine 62 as well..

On Tuesday December 13th at approximately 5:45pm a fully involved garage fire was dispatched for Northeast Fire District and Huntertown FD. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and all occupants were able to leave after attempting to put the fire out. The garage took the brunt of the damage, also extending into the kitchen of the house. Heavy smoke damage was throughout. An aggressive attack prevented extensive fire damage from destroying the entire house. The fire was brought under control 30 minutes after being dispatched. Even though Sundays wind speeds exceeded 25mph people still decide that burning leaves is a good idea. This past weekend Huntertown FD has responded to several fires that have one common denominator.... they all started from leaf burning that got out of control. On Tuesday, Oct. 4th, 2005 at approximately 21:45 hours, HVFD was dispatched to assist the Washington Township Fire Department on a fully involved mobile home fire with persons trapped in the Edgewood Estates mobile home park. HVFD units responding were Fire Chief Jim Reid, Engine 91 with four firefighters, Rescue 98 with five, Tanker 93 and Tanker 94. Engine 91’s crew was assigned to pull an 1 ¾ attack line to protect the exposures and suppress fire on the number 3 side. Rescue 98’s crew pulled a 1 ¾ line off of Tanker 93 and commenced attack on the home and do a primary search. It took twenty minutes to access the interior ot the home due to the large volume of fire. Rescue 98’s crew then proceeded with thier primary search. Unfortunately, one person was found deceased in a back bedroom. The other occupant of the home did make it out, however they suffered serious burns. Just before 2pm Huntertown FD and Washington Twp FD responded to a working structure fire in the Seven Oaks Addition on Shady Hollow Place. Washington Twp Ladder 67 was first to arrive to heavy smoke and flames coming from an attached garage with a vehicle leaking gasoline inside. Engine 91 backed the Ladder crew as Rescue 98 attempted a ventilation hole. Fire damage was primarily contained to the garage and attic above. An insulation vacuume was used to remove all attic insulation because of the extension. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the owners were able to leave unharmed. At approx 07:20 on Monday morning, Huntertown was dispatched on a house under construction on fire, in the Hawthorne Park neighborhood. F92 was 1st on scene with Engine 91. Light smoke could be scene barely on the 4 side which is where the fire broke out of the structure. A passerby grabbed a neighboring garden hose to attempt to put it out. He was successful with the the exterior extinguishment, but the insulation inside had to be removed. All units cleared just over an hour.

At approx 4am Huntertown FD was dispatched to a house fire where the exterior deck was involved. Upon arrival heavy flames could be seen from the back of the house. Further assesment indicated that the fire was both interior and exterior. The engine crew advanced up the spiral stairway with an 1-3/4 to the second floor and made the quick attack. All occupants were accounted for and an additional call was made for manpower to assist. The investigation was made by the Allen County Fast Team and the cause of the fire doesn't appear to be suspicious. Assisting Departments included: Washington Twp Fd, Northeast Fire/EMS, and St. Joe Twp Fd.

On Monday April 25, Huntertown FD was dispatched on an EMS call to a construction site with a head injury. When the Ambulance arrived on scene, they found a completely different situation. A construction worker was at the bottom of a 12' trench that collapsed on him. There was no trench box in the hole, preventing such a tragedy from happening. As soon as the scene turned from a medical call to a trench rescue, the Fort Wayne S.O.R.T. (Specialty Operations Rescue Team) was requested along with Washington Twp. FD and Southwest Fire District Trench Rescue. Other agencies included with this response were the Samaritan Helicopter and TRAA Paramedics. The worker was eventually partially uncovered and still able to communicate. His fellow co-workers refused to leave the trench, endangering there own safety from a possible secondary collapse. With their safety as a primary concern they were ordered out of the trench. Reluctently they exited.

At approx. 2:00 pm on Sunday, Feb 20th 2005, HVFD was dispatched to a MVA On Coldwater Road in the area of Chapman Road. Assistant Chief Eng Rob Tucker arrived on scene and found one full sized van on its side in the ditch with one person trapped. The patient stated that she was not hurt bad but could not get out.
E-95 and Rescue 98 arrived on scene and began extrication operations while Asst. Chief Eng. Tucker took incident command. The roof of the van was cut and folded down and the patient was removed in under 15 min. The patient was transported to a local hospital by E-95 and Rescue 98 remained on scene to assist the flat bed driver with loading of the van. All units cleared the scene by 3:00 pm.

On February 10th at 5:30pm Huntertown FD was dispatched to assist Allen County Animal Control with 2 dogs that fell through the ice on Cedar Canyons Rd. On arrival 2 Labrador Retrievers could be seen struggling for their lives. The dogs were about 30 feet from shore when the ice was no longer able to support them. It is unclear how long the dogs struggled before the property owner was alerted that there was a problem. The dogs in the pond were not owned by the property owner. In fact the residents personal dog was barking frantically in the house indicating that something was wrong out in the pond, which is when she spotted the troubled K-9’s. At that time she dialed 911 and the Rescue was dispatched. Firefighter Barry Hand suited up while his support (Jim Reid, Pat Feely and Rob Tucker) assembled the Ice Sled and hooked up safety rope per our Ice Rescue S.O.P’s. It wasn’t long before firefighter Hand grabbed both dogs, which weighed about 40lbs a piece, and were brought back

At approximately 3:30pm Huntertown FD was dispatched to assist Whitley County on a Propane Business fire fully envolved. It was also reported that people were trapped inside. Fortunately, nobody was in the structure. But it took awhile before all employees could be accounted for. The fire was in a building that stored equipment for the business including a truck that transported propane. All contents of the building were fully envolved on arrival of the first unit, including the truck. The pressure relief on the tank was already set off. No injuries were reported. Several Whitely County Fire Departments assisted first due Churubusco FD. Huntertown FD was the only Allen County FD that responded. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

An accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of St. Rd. 3 and Lima Rd ended with a Sport Utility Vehicle ultimately sliding down a bank and into a creek. Fortunately, all occupants were able to walk away without injury. Firefighter Josh Hough had to wear a wet suit as the fire department assisted the wrecker service hooking up the vehicle.

At approx 1:17am Sunday January 9th, Huntertown FD was dispatched on a structure fire with a Task Force response from Washington Twp FD and a RIT response from Churubusco FD., on the 13000 block of Hand Rd. While enroute, Communications advised responding units that flames were reported visible. Chief Jim Reid was first to arrive and confirmed heavy flames engulfing the attached garage with flames extending beyond the roof peak line. The occupant of the house was alerted by his K9 that jumped on his bed and woke him up. He was able to get himself and 2 kids out safely. The K9 and 2 cats were not as lucky. Despite the owners intent to go in and save the pets, the occupant had to be directed away from the house for his own safety. First arriving units made an initial attack with 1-3/4 and 2-1/2 inch lines attempting to push the fire away from the main body of the house (as seen in photo). Tanker operations were set up by Asst.
