The Huntertown Fire Department has always had a proud tradition of having high school age members. This year is very special because four of our members are graduating, as well as a fifth member who graduated in 2006. Graduating in the class of 2007 are Sam Fehrer, Chris Elett and Billy Workman from Bishop Dwenger High School, and Travis Reid from Carroll High School. Last spring, member Alex Lavitt also graduated from Carroll. Though they are just now graduating high school, these young men have already given dedicated service to our community. Travis Reid, who is Fire Chief Jim Reid’s son, has been a member the longest of the group with four years of service. Alex Lavitt has three years, Sam Fehrer and Chris Elett two years and Billy Workman with just over a year and a half.

They already hold several state certifications in fire fighting and EMS. All hold certifications of Basic Firefighter as well as Firefighter Level 1 and 2. Additionally, Sam, Chris, Billy and Alex hav More...

Huntertown Fire Department is proud to announce that we are certified by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security as a Basic-Advanced Ambulance Service Provider, effective Friday, May 25, 2007.

This is the culmination of 3 months of work by nearly a dozen Basic EMTs, who successfully completed an Advanced EMT class held at the Huntertown Fire Department that started in January 2007. It also involved numerous hours on behalf of Huntertown Fire Department’s Medical Director, Dr. Andy McCanna, and EMS Chief Rich Sellers to establish the new protocols, obtain the necessary equipment and supplies, file the necessary applications and paperwork and arrange the audits and inspections with the Department of Homeland Security representatives.

Huntertown Fire Department’s roster of certified EMTs now includes 13 Advanced and 8 Basic EMTs that are of active status. Additionally, there are 4 Probationary EMTs and 5 Basic EMT students.

The first round of assessments took place Wednesday April 11th. Approximately 20 members attended. The assessment started out with a brief education on the who, what , where and whys of the fitness initiative and how we as emergency responders need to make the right fitness decisions about out health. The assessment was not hard, it actually was fun. Our thanks to all the PFT's (Peer Fitness Trainers) that helped run the event, including those from FWFD and New Haven-Adams Twp FD. If you haven't had your physical we ask that you still schedule it, and same goes for the assessment.
